Division Definitions

I just thought I'd write a little bit about the division definitions that we offer in the course challenges as mentioned in my previous post as they can get a little confusing and often are referred to with mutltiple names. We essentially use a scaled down version of the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) divisions with the exception you must be age 12 or older to participate in our Course Challenges.

Open generally refers to open to any person regardless of age. However, there is the one exception for our course challenges (you must be 12 or older) as noted above. Open is also referred to as Pro division. So you can have the Open Men, Open Women, Open Masters and Open Grandmasters, all of which mean Pro divisions.

Masters are players who are aged 40 and over with DOB during the calendar year. So you could play Masters in the AJ Jolly Course Challenge tomorrow if your DOB is 12/31/68. Again Open Masters is also referred to as Pro or Open Masters.

Grandmasters are players who are aged 50 and over with DOB during the calendar year. You could play in the Course Challenge if your DOB was 12/31/58. AKA Pro or Open Grandmasters.

Advanced Amateurs are players who have advanced disc golf skills but not quite ready to participate in the Open/Pro divisions. You have Advanced Amateur Men, Women, Masters, and Grandmasters divisons.

Novice players are those players who are beginners or others whose skill levels may not be ready for more advanced play. If you haven't participated in an organized event previously, we usually suggest you start here and then you can see where your skill level is compared to other scores that day. However, you are welcome to compete in any division.

We also offer Junior divisions for those between the ages of 12-16, however, they often participate and are welcome to participate in higher divisions, if they choose.

Well, I said it can be confusing, didn't I? I hope I was able to explain it somewhat but I'm sure there may be questions, so just let me know if you do. Also, if anyone sees a mistake or wants to clarify something, by all means do so. I'm not a guru, I'm just wanting to disperse some information.

One last thing, I think many people think that just because we play in tournaments that we are so much better than them - and there are those that are playing in tournaments who think they are better than they are! What I'm trying to say is many people who are recreational disc golfers who haven't participated in an organized event can be just as good as any of those who do. So don't be put off by it being a tournament. Just come out and have fun!
