Interesting New Concept for Tournaments

FPO (Ladies) = $50

TD Craig Gangloff has come up with one of the most novel ideas in ages - a sliding entry fee for Open division players based on player rating. Personally, I hope this format catches on because "mullet" pros with little chance at cashing then don't feel like they're donating large sums of money, and it also encourages up and coming amateur players to try out the Pro ranks at a discounted price. Way to go Craigger!

I think this is a GREAT idea! The problem with the way most tourneys are set up now is that it rewards the beginners by having a million Am divisions. Women and master+ aged players also tend to have a higher liklihood of cashing than those in an unprotected division. 1000+ rated pros will usually cash or win as well.

The ones who get squat are the upper Am players who either: a)Still play Am, get called baggers, and get little sense of accomplishment by doing well in Am1. b)Move up to Open, pay twice as much to play, get no players packs, and usually get smoked by 1000+ rated players unless they really bring it and then they might cash from time to time. d)Realize that the system is messed up and quit playing tournaments.

Potential pros under 40 have little incentive. All the PDGA cares about is that as many players play as possible, and they do that by having the 'everyone is a winner' mentality. Until this stops, the game will never be taken seriously by anyone outside the DG world.

I thought it was pretty good too Ben. I think for a lot of us, we are trying to be Pros, but we just aren't and for many of us won't ever be. I think these are many of the Advanced Ams and many of the Masters and GMS. I think there's an update on this tourney that I'll try to post here shortly.
